Pop Up Stopper
If you are running Pop Up Stopper, or any software that stops those irritating popup adverts while running Internet Explorer, you should turn it off while running the Discovering Ancient Egypt CD ROM.
Pop Up Stopper and similar software will disable the popup help and popup links as well as all the Videos and animations.
If you can't see the movies.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 & 5.5 SP2.
Microsoft have alterd the embed code, in IE6, which displays Quick Time movies.
Unfortunately if you are using IE6 when you click on the movie links it will not play the movie. This is only a problem with IE5.5 SP2 and IE6. If you are using IE5 which comes on the CD ROM or IE4 or Netscape you will not have this problem.
There is a fix for this problem -
Customers using IE5.5 SP2 and IE6 will need the Active X plugin to fix this problem..

Windows XP SP2 and Active content blocker on local files
If you have XP service pack 2 installed on your machine it is possible that you will get a warning about running active content from the CD ROM.
All active content on the CD ROM is safe to run.
However, XP2 might stop you from seeing the drop down menu and help pop ups which enable you to navigate the CD ROM.
This is caused by a default setting of Internet Explorer that disables scripting on local files or files on a CD ROM.
To change this setting in Internet Explorer choose Tools > Internet options and the tab Advanced. Under security enable "Allow active content from CD to run in files on My Computer"

Bounus Animation
river.mov - this is an animation which was never used in the CD ROM but was inadvertently left on when the CD was mastered.
To see it please follow these instructions.
1. Open the Quick Time Player.
2. With the CD ROM in the CD ROM drive go File/Open Movie. Navigate to your CD ROM drive. Open data/movies.
CD ROM DRIVE PROBELMS
If, after you have installed the CD, you try running it without the CD in the CD ROM drive it will come up with the message: "This is a demonstration version of Discovering Ancient Egypt and is not for resale" This is an error and should say "Please insert CD into your CD ROM drive"
When I was developing the CD I needed to show work in progress to various people and put this into the installation program to protect my work - I forgot to take it out in the final version and it pops up when you have not put the CD ROM in your CD ROM drive.
The only other reason it might pop up when you have the CD ROM in the CD ROM drive is if your CD ROM drive letter has changed since you installed it - this can happen when you add an extra drive such as Hard dive or another CD ROM dive or DVD.
The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall Discovering Egypt from Add Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then reinstall it. Then as long as you have the CD ROM in your CD ROM drive all should work ok.
